In a post-9/11 world, Afghanistan is not the country it was during the Cold War. It’s a country of sectarian hatred, where the war is fought and the war won’t be won. The U.S. has not completely gotten out from under the rule of the Taliban. In fact, the U.S. government has spent $700 million on a “peace” initiative to unify the country and prevent further bloodshed. The Taliban is still a serious threat to U.
Afghanistan is also a country where religion still plays a huge role in its economy and culture, and the government has a huge and growing security problem, not all of it created by the U.S. government. Just last month there were multiple attacks and attacks on U.S. forces in Afghanistan and no one seems to be seriously investigating them.
The U.S. military is now one of the primary targets of the Taliban insurgency, and while the U.S. government is focusing most of its attention on Pakistan (through drone strikes and support for the government there), it’s making sure that the Taliban doesn’t take control of the country by itself. Of course, in this country, it’s not completely unheard of for a U.S.
Spetsnaz is a unit of the Afghan army that has been fighting the Taliban in the country for several years now. It provides support to the Afghan forces, and the unit has received a lot of support from the U.S. as well. Its not clear what exactly is going on, but there was a statement on the official site that its not really safe in these areas. I have no problem with technology that will be used for good, but I do have a problem with it being used for evil. Thats the reason why I don’t like the term “dirty bomb.
